For the next generation of kin — where every doll celebrates our story.
When I was growing up, I wasn’t around too many Hmong families. I appreciated and loved my culture, but I didn’t always see it reflected anywhere — not in books, not on TV, not in the toys I played with. People would ask where I was from, and sometimes I felt like I had to explain myself more than others. As I got older, I realized those differences were actually treasures and they made me unique. Our language, our clothes, our stories — they’re all part of something beautiful.
When I became a mother, I wanted my daughter to have something I never did — a doll that looked like her, dressed in clothes that told our story, and carried a little piece of home in every stitch. I wanted all of my kids to find pride in their roots and to embrace world culture.
That’s how HmongKin Dolls started. My vision is for HmongKin to be more than just dolls — they’re a way to pass down pride, love, and connection from one generation to the next.
A Vision Rooted in Family and History
2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the Hmong community’s resettlement in the United States.
It’s a milestone that has a very symbolic meaning for me — a reminder of my parents’ sacrifices, their courage to start over in a new land, and my father’s unwavering belief in the value of education, independence, and giving back. My father was one of my rocks, he supported independence and education in women; he empowered me. My mother’s strength in giving us every bit of love, care, and guidance she could so we could grow into our fullest potential and remain close as a family. Because of this, I am truly grateful for the opportunities and the personal and professional development I have today in the United States as a Hmong American.
HmongKin Dolls are my way of honoring that journey.
Each doll is meant as a cultural keepsake, designed to reflect the beauty of Hmong clothing, history, and identity in a way that can be cherished for generations.
Nkauj Ntsuab is dedicated to my mother, whose support has never wavered, no matter what season I am in life. One of my dreams is to one day create and dedicate a unique doll for each Hmong subgroup, so every story and tradition has a place to be celebrated.
Why Representation Matters
As a child, it helps growing up with toys that share your beginnings.
When a doll shares your skin tone, your clothing, or your traditions, it quietly says: You belong. You matter.
My hope is that HmongKin Dolls will inspire pride in Hmong children and spark curiosity in others to learn about our vibrant culture.
The First Collection: Golden Roots Series
The very first limited-edition collection is called Golden Roots — a tribute to our 50th anniversary here in the United States and the rich heritage and resilient thread that connects us to our ancestors.
Each doll will have a unique design, outfit, and story card in both English and Hmong, so every owner becomes part of the storytelling tradition.
